Inspiration: Felton

March 27, 2009

Last night I got to hear one of my biggest design heroes speak, right here, in OKC.

Nicholas Felton is most famous for his info-graphic design – including annual reports detailing every little bit of his life down to how many beers he drank in a year. Jeremy actually pointed me to his site after he made an appearance in his RSS feeds. I was beyond impressed and quickly became obsessed.

He travels, documents and designs with passion (and systems and process) and has seemed to make quite a name for himself doing what he loves. His focus and creativity (born from limitations) inspires me.

Jeremy actually purchased his 2006 and 2007 reports for me when we first started dating. I took them to his talk but was too shy to have him sign them. (I also thought it might interfere with the design.)

Grass Green Trim

March 26, 2009

Recently Liz casually mentioned Jeremy and I painting the trim to our home grass green. Usually I’m really good at visualizing but this I’d just have to see it.

So in her spare time she mocked it up for me. I like it!

Then I found this color palette on Kuler.

Lately, I’ve been thinking that old tudor-style home look really sharp with black trim. I’m not sure the best way to combine the grass green, black and cream but I’m going to start snapping shots of homes I like around the area with brick and wood trim.

Of course, all of this won’t happen for another year. Then it’ll be wood stormer windows (to replace the ick metal) rehabbing all the woodwork on the windowpanes and painting.

I have always loved this Hoover building. The details that only time can create.

What in your home dictates how you design/decorate?
My graphic design education, actually. As I learned and appreciated more about design in the 50s and 60s, I also started appreciating everything ELSE from those periods- especially the interiors. And clothes. And music.

Check out the rest of her House Tour here at Rearranged Design.

Everything Liz touches turns to magic. Which is why she’s going to (re)design my built-in bookshelves this week. Haha!

New Stove!

Our new stove was delivered Sunday morning.

It is fantastic. We baked a delicious tuna noodle casserole in it to make sure it works.
