When I was in art school I wasn’t a big fan of sketching. I didn’t fully grasp the importance. But lately, I’ve been fascinated by artists sketch books. More so than their actual paintings. Same with designers. I’m more impressed with a sketchbook full of drawn out logo ideas than the actual, shiny, finished product.

I love the presentation of this sketch book at the Harwood Museum in Taos, NM.

The only drawing I really enjoyed in college was contour (where you can’t pick up your pencil or pen) with a Sharpie.

Working in a creative, fast-paced, industry my “sketching” consists more of to-do lists. If I were to actually sit down and start doodling I’d feel too self-aware… but I want a notebook filled with cool drawings!

How do I get started? Any advice?
