To-Do in 2014

Okay, so I talked about how I want to feel in 2014 (like a warrior) but there are plenty of things I’d like to DO in 2014 too. In fact, 2013 has been a year of reflection and writing – this year I’m hoping to get out of my head a little and get down to more doing. So here’s just a snippet of my to-do list for the next year:

• Bravely birth my baby into this world
• Fall madly in love with said baby (though, I think that one is already covered)
• Cook + eat really good food / experiment more in the kitchen
• More camping + hiking
• Get into the best shape of my life / build muscle
• Climb a 5.11
• Edit + overhaul + invest in my dream wardrobe
• Keep said wardrobe off the floor
• Give my husband loving he can’t deny
• Enthusiastically celebrate every holiday
• Collaborate more with artists + bloggers I admire
Drink more water
• Take more photos
• Soak up the Oklahoma pink skies (pink sunsets / sunrises are my happy place)
• Begin an adventure in high-pointing (more on this later)
• Create + write meaningful products (digital product + coaching is where my biz passion is these days)
• Keep my toenails nice / get pedicures often
• Read more books / a blend of fiction + non-fiction
• Read to my baby + take him on walks daily
• Experiment with fiber art
• Landscape the back yard
• Stick to a meditation habit

Yeah, it’s ambitious. But I’m fueled up and ready to make 2014 the best year yet.

Finally, I wanted to take a moment to say thanks to all of you for joining along in this adventure with me. Sharing my life here has truly allowed me to create my own story – to become the person I want to be. So thank you for your support – whether that’s with sweet comments, supporting my business, or simply enjoying what I write and sending good vibes. I appreciate you!

Now I want to hear from you! What are some things you want to do to make 2014 an adventure?

P.S. The images above are collaged from my Instagram (the bottom right is from Claire’s Instagram). I plan on doing lots more real life sharing there in 2014 too.

  1. What a great list! And best wishes on a healthy delivery!
I have a long list but I’m excited to run my first 5K and I hope to learn how to swim this year.

  2. AwesomeMargie

    Excellent list.
My 2014 plans consists of aiming for more stability in my home and work life. Currently, my family is dealing with illness and we’re hoping and praying that at the close of 2014, we’ll be over the hump.

So, stability, health, and continuing to guide our son and his endless energy mostly that he try and curve his need to taste cat food and being a bit rough with them. Boom.

I appreciate you continuing to let us into this part of your life. New babies are exciting and so personal so thank you for sharing. I can’t wait to meet Spike Jonze, Jr.

  3. Sounds like a good mix of goals big and small! I’m sure you’ll get it all done – especially the loving the baby part!

  4. Traci

Great list! I always have “read more books,” “take more photos,” and “be more adventurous with eating/cooking” on my list. Other than that, I’m hoping to take risks with my art and putting myself out there this year. Hooray for New Years!

  5. I have yet to put my resolutions and plans in motion or out there in the internet but I want 2014 to be the year I do for me, not selfishly, I want to care for myself. All to often I let stuff fall by the wayside. I want to take better physical and emotional care of myself and my needs. Sure I want to lose weight, get in great shape but I’m thinking if I word this as, taking care of myself for my health I’m more likely to stick with it.

I also want to continue my do more with less mind set. It worked well last year. Sure around the holidays we went a bit crazy, but gift giving is fun. Shopping is fun. But now, we need to dial it back, pay off our holiday spending and try to appreciate all that’s around us that money CAN’T buy.

I love your “keep the wardrobe off the floor” I need that too. Keep it off the “not really dirty yet” chair in our room and hang it in the closet if I plan to wear it again.

This year is all about bettering myself. For myself and for everyone around me.

Thanks for the inspiration!!! And I can’t wait to “meet” your bundle of joy!

  6. Abby

I wrote out 14 aspirations for 2014. Check out my blog link. Thanks for posting this!

  7. I love that you have high-pointing on your list! That one is definitely on my rolling life to-do list. Wherever we go, I seek the altitude. 🙂

In 2014 I aspire to become stronger (physically and when it comes to willpower) and to say no to more things. I’m trying to be more open about my dreams so, rather than take on jobs and obligations that fit what I think I should be doing, I’m focusing on doing exactly what feels right in my soul, regardless of how I it might look from the outside.

  8. Jess

I’m posting personal and professional things this week on our blog, but the main things are:

Collaborate with more people and learn from my lists of “greats” on a more personal level.

Take my business closer to the point of going full-time with it.

Have my outer-self match who my inner-self says I am.

Oh. And. Make trips to OKC to be friends with these girls named Kathleen, Tara and Misty.

  9. This is a great list Kathleen! I really love your blog (and your blog design, gorgeous!)

If this high pointing adventure brings you to Wyoming, hit us up. We own an ATV/snowmobile shop in a teeny town outside Jackson Hole. I can see Gannet Peak just down the road. We aren’t climbers and wouldn’t presume to join you, but we can show you around/ride some ATVs and dirtbikes/camp in the Airstream.

  11. Liz

If there’s anybody who can tackle this to-do list, its you, lady! Wishing you a powerful year 🙂

  12. Carrie

Today is my 33rd birthday, and officially my New Year. I always give myself those extra days between the ‘real’ holiday and now to plan and set intentions and start putting those things into action. This year I really liked your suggestion of defining the ways I want to feel, and narrowing down some words to live by. So for my 33rd year I have landed on: Bravery/Momentum/Authenticity

I left my job last May to learn web development and beef up my design skills so I can work for myself. It was a year of planning, learning, preparing… I find myself kicking off 2014 with three clients already and two more potential ones lined up for February! It feels surreal and a little scary. I have to be mindful that I earned this and am capable and have all I need to make it work. (You and Braid Creative have a lot to do with that!)

So as far as my ‘To Do’ list goes:
    1. get my business systems and processes dialed in
    2. go after my top 3 dream clients in the 2nd/3rd quarter of this year
    3. go on an overnight backpacking trip alone
    4. backpack in remote SE Oregon (Alvord Desert/Steens Mtn.)
    5. feel strong and fit in my body again
    6. move to a more spacious, sunny home and adopt 2 cats

  13. I just recently started following along, Kathleen, but have mega amounts of respect for your 2014 ambitions. I’d try to pick out one or two favorites, but they’re all equally special. Editing, overhauling, and investing in a dream wardrobe does hit pretty close to home, as I’ve been wanting to take on a similar project for ages!

Best of luck in all of your 2014 adventures–sending lots of positive thouhgts!

  14. Renee

More doing less thinking. Smile … often. Embrace sharing. Succeed at a whole year of ethical fashion. Make more. Be inspired constantly. Love and be loved. Read. Enjoy the simple things everyday.

  15. Alien Mind Girl

Now I say I don’t do resolutions… but I actually make a last year’s accomplished list and a next year’s To Do List. I already lost this year’s list. But it’s continuing part of my new thing, that I am to mark off one thing from my “bucket list” every year… even if it is a big thing involving lots of planning and saving! In 2011, we spent St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin. 2012’s bucket didn’t work out… but Last year, we saw the Dalai Lama.

This year, the Bucket Goal is to make Burning Man. <= nervous but stoked. (This is one of those involves-crazy-planning bucket items…)

2014 minigoals… wake up earlier and add morning yoga (thanks to all your talk about having a nice morning). Do 15 minutes of "actual real" cardio every day. Nurture the baby trees I planted well enough that they will all survive! Make more space in, and better curate, my house. Pay off loans. Be more thankful. Balance social/antisocial lives better. Paint my front door (it's true, I never did it, even though I have the paint)

  16. Rachel

This is a great list!! I have a lot of respect for your ambitions! Wishing you the best in 2014!! Motherhood is the best 🙂

  17. Ashley

I’m completely on board with you experimenting with some fiber art for my living room, unless of course you’re ready to give me that brown collage that mistakenly made its way into your house instead of mine. 🙂 Canada gave me major wanderlust, so 2014 is all about cramming in as much travel and adventure as I can.

  18. Ramona

As always such an encouragement and thanks for challenging me to be more ambitious and put things on paper to not forget.

I want to buy an apartment this year, I want to travel to Africa and spend 3 weeks with an organisation helping people, I want to dance more, run more, make more beautiful events, be more creative, cook better, have more people over and create an atmosphere of home and I want to be at my absolute best when I turn 30 this year. This is going to be the best year yet and I can’t wait for it all!

I have a few big goals in 2014, but I love your to do list. I definitely want to do more camping and hiking. Just being outdoors more in general is something I want to strive for. We have a large yard and I hope to just be out there with our dogs hanging out, gardening, whatever.

  21. Jessica

“Keeping wardrobe off the floor” is a great goal…I should probably add that to my list if I want to keep Fiance happy…

My big goal this year is to ENGAGE more. Both professionally and personally. I’ve really been withdrawing more and more into myself and I’ve finally realized that that is sapping power away from my core. I LOVE talking to and working with amazing people and I want/need to make that a focus and priority for myself this year.

    Thanks for being so inspiring!
